How to Find Chapter-Wise Weightage for Class 9 & 11
Why it's harder to find than you'd expect — and what to do instead.
If you've tried searching "CBSE Class 9 chapter weightage" or "Class 11 marks distribution," you've probably noticed something frustrating: the official numbers are hard to pin down. There's a real reason for that — and knowing it changes how you should prepare.
Why Class 9 & 11 don't have official weightage tables
CBSE officially publishes Sample Question Papers and Marking Schemes only for Class 10 and Class 12 — the board exam years — on cbseacademic.nic.in. Class 9 and 11 don't get this treatment because they aren't board-exam years; internal school exams set the actual paper for these classes.
That means the "chapter weightage" your child needs for Class 9 or 11 isn't a fixed number from CBSE — it's set by their own school, based on CBSE's syllabus and curriculum guidelines.
What to check instead
- Your child's school circular or exam blueprint. Most schools issue one before each term exam — ask the class teacher directly if you haven't received it.
- The CBSE curriculum document for the subject. Available on cbseacademic.nic.in, it lists unit-wise marks allocation as a guideline, which most schools follow closely even without a mandated paper.
- Previous years' school question papers. If your child's school reuses a similar paper structure year to year, last year's paper is often the most accurate weightage signal you'll get.
